I saw this thread. I knew what must be done.

I exhumed the carcass from the grave yard.

A $27 440 clone crank was purchased.

And a $40 460 Big Bore kit.

Then, unspeakable deeds.

First attempts with the Drill press and rusty end-mill worked, but it turned out the case was cracked at the bearing pocket.

A second grave was robbed of its skeleton. More sophisticated dark rights were performed. A milling machine and indexable boring head are powerful dark magic.

Magnesium is very stringy. Worse than aluminum. Sharp HSS and proper speed are important.

Some more grave digging yielded a viable heart. 066 meteor piston. 0.1” off the skirt, widened the pin bosses for the 440 crank, sculpted and smoothed the ventricles for better blood flow.

The cylinder involved extensive surgery. Slot the bolt holes, cut grooves for the bolt heads, trim some fins. I drilled the holes through the fins so I could drop the bolts in as well.

I didn’t quite get the slots perfect. You can see where the bolt threads marked the aluminum.

After the first cylinder surgery I was able to bolt it down and start on the muffler prosthetic. The 460 jug is kicked back farther so the 361 muffler sticks up too far.

Mashing dead bodies back together isn’t pretty.

Cylinder surgery #2

0.115” off the base, squish set to 0.022” with the stock gasket. Transfers need a lot more volume and the tunnels need to shift towards the exhaust. My surgical assistant, James Bradley Weld, was critical in reshaping the genetically inferior vasculature.

Cylinder surgery #3

Trim the fins down on the lathe, started cutting the space for the AV, made a slot for the cover rubber. I widened the space between the fins and ground the sides off a bolt to make a cover mount. I might change that.
