Its root flair often unappreciated,
covered with mulch, unsightly thing.
Discerning eye, oh natural man
see fingers pushed where we cannot see
into the ground
clasping, holding, resisting the toppling winds,
character
like the wrinkles in the skin of an old man,
playful
stepping stones for children feet.
All take notice
we do not just stand on the ground
but are gripped to the earth.
