So as Spring has arrived so have the nasty black gnats. What are folks using to combat the little bastards? The staple here has been Absorbing Jr but they are not even repelled by that now.

Idk they’re not a problem here. The skeeterz are a different story.

We use the cheapest Vanilla extract we can find. Need to re apply somewhat often.

They trumpet the Bug Soother here but I have not had much success with it either.

During the month of May they torture our horses. I have found that a product called SWAT repels them very effectively. It's messy (creamy), but it works. One application on the horses to the most frequently affected areas (base of the neck, ears, armpits, belly, & around the sheath on males) will last for 3 or 4 days.

The kill countless chickens here. We try to use a lot of air blowing across them as that holds back the gnats some. The egg layers are a bit less susceptible. The meat birds are so fat and lethargic that the gnats will get them. They invade the noses of cows and calves, especially young calves and newborns. The same with the sheep. The morses have been gone so long I do not remember. Of course horses will stand in pairs swatting each other so that does help a bit
